Once you’ve entered the required information, make sure to click “Add Student” at the bottom of the page to save your details and successfully add your student.
Applying to an Open Enrollment Charter School
Important: An application does not guarantee that you are accepted or enrolled at a school. If your application is accepted or a lottery seat is offered, you will be notified, and you must complete a separate enrollment process with the school.
After submitting your student’s profile, return to the main dashboard. The student you created will now appear on this page. By clicking on the student, you will see two tabs: one for current applications and one for Enrollments.
Once you’ve submitted applications for this student, they will appear here along with their status and application details.
To start the application process, click the blue button that says ‘Apply to an open-enrollment charter school’. After selecting this button, you will be directed to the application section for the student. You will need to complete the following fields to submit the application:
- Open Enrollment Public Charter: From the dropdown menu, select the district with an open application window. Choose the district you wish to apply to.
- School: After selecting the district, choose the specific school within that district you are applying to.
- Application Window: Once the district and school are selected, choose the available application window for the school. Some application windows may have specific titles, such as ‘Fall 2025’ or ‘2025-2026 School Year’.
- Grade: Select the grade your student will be in for the designated application. If the grade selected does not align with your student’s expected graduation year, a popup will appear to notify you.
After filling out this information, a box will appear with school-specific details, such as the applications the school is accepting, a link to the school handbook, and lottery dates. The information will vary by school.
If the application window requires a lottery, a notice will appear in red under the word lottery, stating: ‘This application window requires a lottery to determine which applications will be accepted.’
Next, you will answer questions about priority status and past expulsions:
- Does this student have a sibling already enrolled in this Public Open Enrollment Charter?
‘A legal sibling is defined as a brother or sister who shares at least one parent with the student. This includes biological siblings, half-siblings, step-siblings, and adopted siblings. You may be required to provide a birth certificate for verification.’
Select yes if the student has a sibling enrolled, or no if not. - Is this student a child of a full-time employee?
‘Arkansas law allows for children of full-time employees and founders to be given preference in the application process. You may be required to provide proof of employment.’
Select yes if the student is a child of a full-time employee, or no if not. - Is this child currently subject to any disciplinary action or expulsion from another school?
‘Ark. Code Ann. §6-18-510 allows for Public Open Enrollment Charters to deny enrollment to a student until the time of the student’s expulsion has expired.’
Select yes if the student has been expelled or is subject to disciplinary action, or no if not.
Finally, you will have the opportunity to provide any additional information that may be helpful in processing this application. Enter any relevant comments, notes, or questions in the provided textbox. The last step is to agree to the terms and conditions, and confirm that you, as the guardian, understand the lottery process. Once you’ve checked the necessary boxes, click submit. This will officially submit the application to the school!
Viewing Your Child’s Application Status
As mentioned in the previous section, you can now track the status of your child’s applications directly from the student’s dashboard. The application details displayed will include the following:
- School Name
- District Name
- School Phone Number
- School Address
- School Website
- Application Window Applied For
- Application Status
- ID Code
- Grade Applied For and Date Applied
- Messages: Any sent or received messages will appear at the bottom of the application details box.
Application Status Types
There are several types of application statuses you may see:
- Pending: This status means that the application has been submitted but is still awaiting further action. If the application window is a lottery, it will remain pending until the lottery is conducted. For “first come, first served” application windows, the status will remain pending until the school either accepts or denies the application. For a waitlist application, the status will remain pending until the application is either accepted or denied based on seat availability.
- Seat Declined: This status appears when a school denies your child’s application, or if you are offered a seat and choose to decline it.
- Seat Offered: This status means the school has accepted the application, and your child has been offered a seat, either through the regular application process or via a lottery selection.
If your child is applying through a lottery window and is not selected, their status will remain Pending, and they will be placed on the waitlist. You will receive updates regarding the lottery results and your child’s lottery number.
Message History
You can view message history for each application by clicking the Messages button at the bottom of the application details box. All messages related to the application will remain visible here, even if they have been deleted from your inbox. Guardians will also receive notifications via email about status updates and important information related to the application process.
Important Reminder
An application does not guarantee acceptance or enrollment at a school. If your application is accepted, or if a lottery seat is offered, you will be notified. However, you will need to complete a separate enrollment process directly with the school to finalize your child’s enrollment.
Enrollments
Once your student is offered a seat from a waitlist, lottery, or on a first-come, first-served basis, you will be notified. After accepting the seat, you can begin the enrollment process for that student.
In the student’s dashboard, which you can access by clicking the student’s name on the homepage, you’ll see two tabs: Applications and Enrollments.
After accepting the offered seat, you can proceed to the Enrollments tab. The enrollment for the accepted seat will appear here, initially marked as “Incomplete.” A blue text link will prompt you to select “Continue Enrollment” to begin the process.
